A joy rally and gathering was held in Ashtagram, Kishoreganj on the occasion of International May Day. A large number of workers and common people participated in this rally organized under the leadership and chairmanship of Ashtagram Upazila Nationalist Workers’ Party President candidate Mir Taposh.
A colorful rally started from the main road of Ashtagram Bazar on Thursday (May 01) afternoon, the rally circled the important areas of the market and ended at Kachari More. The workers, holding various banners, festoons and placards, highlighted their rights and gave a message of international workers’ solidarity.
Upazila Workers’ Party Secretary candidate Md. Sultan Mia spoke as the main speaker at the rally. In addition, organizational candidate Md. Joy Mia and labor leaders Md. Kausar Ahmed, Shah Alam, Ashfaq Ahmed and Nurul Amin made valuable speeches on the rights of workers and the current context.
In their speeches, the speakers urged the workers to remain united and demanded fair wages and a safe environment at work. Since there is currently no executive committee of the Ashtagram Upazila Labor Party, the speakers also strongly demanded the rapid formation of a new committee, which they believe can play a stronger role in realizing the rights of the workers.
In his closing speech, Mir Taposh pledged to always stand by the workers to protect their interests and emphasized the need to build a strong labor organization.
The leaders and activists present felt that this rally and gathering was held on the occasion of May Day in Ashtagram, which is expected to create a new enthusiasm among the workers and further accelerate the struggle to realize their rights.
